One of the things that makes the Dolphin Club unique is our fleet of traditional wooden rowboats. Most of these boats are based on the traditional Whitehall design, modified for the club with a sliding seat for more efficiency. Many of these boats were built at the club, and some are over 100 years old. They are all maintained in excellent condition at the club with loving care from our volunteers.
It’s a unique collection of boats which members can use after training.
Beginner rowing training is offered to members in our wooden boats. Classes are typically held monthly.
Club boats are often seen on display at local boatshows including the Master Mariners show in June.
Qualified members row our wooden boats far and wide to explore the reaches of San Francisco Bay. Every year, a small group of committed rowers will row all the way to Sacramento.
Every Tuesday evening, beginning at 6:00 pm, club members and other wooden-boat enthusiasts gather in the boat shop to help with important maintenance on our fleet.
Volunteers work on the boats from 6 to 9 pm. The evening is fun, social, and educational, but can get dirty; come prepared to sand and/or varnish. You are welcome to bring a non-member friend. You need know nothing of woodwork or boat building, just bring your enthusiasm. Please join us for a ‘family-style’ meal from 5 to 6 pm to kick off the evening.

The Dolphin Club ‘Single’ Whitehalls are sliding seat versions of the traditional Whitehall design. The first of these boats were originally built at the club by Bill Richards in 1947. The club now has 9 of these boats, and the newest was completed in 2016
