This guide is written for rowers, paddlers (and swimmers and motorboat pilots) at the Dolphin Club. It’ll probably be useful for any kayaker or rower in central San Francisco Bay. It’s written to help you understand the waters you’re rowing or paddling. It’ll help you understand some of the hazards you might face, and how to avoid them.
To take Dolphin Club boats outside of the cove without supervision, you will need to be certified. Certified means that a club instructor approves that you are capable of handling your craft, and that you understand the material in this Bay Safety section. Please take the quiz linked at the end.
